Our highly skilled and committed team works to uphold the human rights of people that have been tortured anywhere in the world. If you are passionate about human rights and want to use your expertise to make a difference, REDRESS could have the right role for you. You will be joining an organisation where you can learn and thrive, as well as support our mission to deliver justice and reparation for survivors of torture, challenge impunity for perpetrators, and advocate for legal and policy reforms to combat torture.

Our working environment is open, friendly and supportive. Our work is a combination of individual and collaborative work in smaller teams, including with external partners around the world. We are mindful of each other and of the different ways we interact and engage.

Our staff are based in London, UK and in The Hague, Netherlands. We stress the importance of a healthy work-life balance in our practices. We are as flexible as possible to meet employees’ needs.

We are also intently aware of the barriers faced by many people in employment, especially those experienced by members of under-represented groups and related to disability, ethnicity or national origin, colour, race, language, gender, marital status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and more.

We do everything within our power to remove as many of these barriers in our day-to-day operations and employment practices. Beyond these, we continuously strive to maintain an organisational culture that is committed to diversity and inclusion. We particularly want to promote the inclusion of those with lived experience of torture in our work.

Equality and Diversity Policy

Under our Equality and Diversity Policy we have made a commitment to promote diversity and inclusion and equality of opportunity, including monitoring of the diversity of our applicant pools and eventual appointments, and making adjustments to our practices where necessary to improve representation. We ask candidates to complete our Diversity Monitoring Form and submit online anonymously. The form is not connected to any individual candidate and is only used to provide anonymised statistics.

Our Pay Structure

REDRESS aims to provide competitive remuneration within the NGO sector to attract and retain high quality and committed staff. Our guiding principle is to ensure that we use the charitable funds we have available responsibly to achieve our mission balanced with the importance of retaining valued staff to enable us to achieve this.

In the Netherlands, salary scales for staff are controlled by the Collective Labour Agreement for Social Work, which is a negotiated agreement between employers and employees related to terms and conditions including salaries, working hours, notice periods and pensions.

In the UK, salary scales for staff are based on a simple staff structure consisting of six levels (Assistant to Director level) and seven steps (1 to 7) in each level. Staff at each level can progress up a step each year in their role dependent on performance and the organisation’s financial position. As a minimum, we would apply the annual cost of living increase. In the case of the Director, the salary is set by the Board of Trustees.

We conduct a benchmarking exercise every three years to assess the market rates for equivalent roles at equivalent sized charitable organisations.

Our board members in the Netherlands and the UK do not receive any remuneration, however expenses will be reimbursed for eligible expenditure and declared in our annual accounts.

REDRESS is an accredited Living Wage Employer. This demonstrates our commitment as a responsible employer to ensure that our staff can earn enough to live on which is beyond the statutory minimum wage requirements set by the government.
