Mr X

HIS STORY

In March 2013 Mr X (name given to him to protect his identify) was arbitrarily arrested by armed militia in Misrata, Libya. He was ill-treated and has been detained there ever since.

ACTION FOR JUSTICE

Lawyers for Justice in Libya (LFJL) and REDRESS filed an individual complaint with the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) and the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture on 22 March 2016.

The complaint submitted that the continuation of Mr Y’s detention is unlawful and constitutes a serious danger to his health.

It requested for the WGAD to send an urgent appeal on humanitarian grounds to the Libyan State, requesting that Mr Y be released immediately to ensure that his right to physical integrity is respected.

LFJL and REDRESS also asked the WGAD to supply an opinion on the arbitrary nature of the deprivation of Mr Y’s liberty and to recommend that the Libyan State provides him with effective and adequate redress.
